I kind of vanished for the last week or so. Here’s what happened. I had an idea.
It started as a way to keep track of my own knitting.
I never have fewer than five projects going at once. My husband jokes that it’s probably way more than that. He’s not wrong. Some are complicated. Some are very, very simple. The simple ones are my movie theater knitting. Yes, I knit at the theater. And always have easy car knitting projects, too.
When I put a project down, I try to leave myself a note about where I was. Some days that note is great. Other days it depends on how tired I was or how much of a hurry I was in. Then I pick the project back up and stare at my own handwriting. What did “decrease on the next one” mean?
So I decided I wanted a tracker. One that goes row by row. One where I get to check off the boxes, because I love to check off boxes.
And by heavens, I invented it.
I’ve spent the past week testing it. I am so in love with it.
It’s called Where Was I?
It’s a skill, which is an AI tool you add to your own AI account. You buy it, you download it, and you install it. It works best in Claude. It works in the free or paid versions of Claude. It also works in ChatGPT. I’ve tested it in several tools, and Claude is my favorite.
Here’s how it works:
You take your knitting pattern. It works for crochet, too. You need the pattern as a PDF, so scan it if you only have it on paper. Upload the PDF, and Where Was I? reads it. Then it builds a tracker just for that project. It goes row by row, or round by round if you’re working in the round. You print it or tap it on your tablet or phone, and you check off the boxes as you go.
Where Was I? asks for your size, so the tracker creates checkboxes for the size you’re making. It asks if you want inches or centimeters. Each tracker is customized for the project in front of you.
One note: Where Was I? supports a pattern you already own. It doesn’t include patterns. It turns your pattern into a row-by-row (or round-by-round) tracker.
I think this might just be the coolest thing I’ve ever created. I’ve got several trackers going right now, and I’m having a blast!
What it costs
Where Was I? is $24.99. It comes with a free bonus: my Knitting Project Trackers, a set of fill-in sheets for your project notes. Your downloads arrive right away, with step-by-step installation instructions.

I went down a rabbit hole, and look what came out. If you knit or crochet, I hope you’ll try it. If you know someone who knits, pass this along. I think they’ll love it as much as I do. Honestly, I can’t think of a better gift for a knitter or crocheter! Well…especially if it came with some yummy new hand-dyed yarn!
Find your happy. Love what you do. Make a difference.
Linda
