In hindsight, no would have been the smarter answer.
The Miss Cranky side of the She Says Yes on Purpose energy here pushed you into saying yes before you were ready. The opportunity showed up, the fear of missing out got loud enough, and before anything had really been felt through, the yes was already out. And now you’re in it. Committed to something that’s taking more than you anticipated, heading somewhere you never imagined.
In yesterday’s episode, I shared my story of how I ended up being a professor for fifteen years. It was the quick yes, before I had time to think about it. It was this time of year, and I was in the energy of She Says Yes on Purpose. I didn’t want to pass on the opportunity for a job during a tough job market. It wasn’t a grand plan. I had no idea if I was any good at teaching, if it was something I really wanted to do, or, importantly, how much of my time it would take.
In hindsight, no would probably have been the smarter answer. Teaching requires hours of preparation for each different class you teach. Then there’s the time in the classroom. The grading. The time spent helping and working with students. Plus, the additional service components of the job. I had worked in corporate before teaching, and most times, when I went home, I was done for the day and for the weekend. Teaching is not that way.
There’s also the frustration that builds when the expectation of where you thought something was going doesn’t match where it ended up. You signed up for one journey, and life handed you a completely different one, and nobody warned you that was part of the deal.
Underneath this energy is a low refrain of, “I keep fully committing to things that don’t go where I thought they would. And I’m not sure which yeses were really my yeses.”
Find your happy. Love what you do. Make a difference. Come back to me safely. See ya!
